Pacific Tsunami Warning Center

Tsunami Threat: : Series of destructive ocean waves that can effect all shorelines.

May occur at any time with limited or no warning.  A strong earthquake may cause tsunamis.  Go to high ground immediately.

"A steady three minute siren tone is the attention alert signal.  Tune your radio or television to any station and listen for emergency information and instructions ...
Persons in shoreline or beach areas should go to high ground immediately."
From the Disaster Preparedness Info pages,
State Civil Defense System.

If a "watch" has been issued, tsunamis are possible; get ready.  If a "warning"  is issued, you should leave coastal areas immediately.

For the island of Oahu, see the tsunami evacuation maps in the Verizon Phone Book.  They start on page 59 in the General Information Section of the Phone Book valid through October 2005 or link to Oahu Civil Defense Agency Evacuation Zone Maps.  Or access the Oahu Civil Defense Evacuation Zone Maps listed below:

If you are in a safe area, stay there.  Do not get into your car and make potential traffic worse.  Wait for the "all-clear" announcement.

If you're in a Tsunami Zone, emergency authorities recommend not using your car.   If you're in Waikiki, Civil Defense authorities don't want people to try to leave.  They recommend "Vertical Evacuation."  Reinforced concrete buildings survive tsunamis well, and Waikiki residents and visitors are urged to go to the third floor or higher.  If you're in Lanikai, Oahu head inland and uphill by foot.  The road out of Lanikai is in a Tsunami Zone and will probably be grid locked.
